Guide About Duplicate Content

Guide About Duplicate ContentThis is a articles that I had rewrite from MoreNiche e-book, Guide About Duplicate Content.

There would be only one version of every document in perfect world, but in our real life, this is not true. Why? OK, here’s an example, online versions of newspaper sites. In one form or another way, they all publish exactly or close information about events or facts. This also same for many other areas, let say, diet programs, definitions of facts, explanations, recipes, fitness programs and many others.

Search engine (also known as SE) can penalize a sites ranking because they looks as though content been taken from another sites. But, these duplication content sites sit well in Index and even rank well. Damn. How can this be? How to filters? OK, now read this on.

Filters are exist, but in primitive form

To check the entire internet, Search Engine need a lots of resources. Then, to uncover duplicate content, SE use simple forms.

But How?

The mostly common pattern is a links. SE check between two linked sites for duplicate pages/content. If they exist, SE will get rid of the duplicate - usually the one who links to source site.

How this work?

OK, here’s an example. If website B (about healthy news) republished article from site A (about health research institute) and B puts link on their site to A for reference, SE will understands that site A is an original source and site B has copied from A. Then, site B been charge for dupe content website.

How SE penalize them?

1 or 2 articles like this won’t harm site B much, if site B has a lots of original content. But, if duplicate content fill up in a significant number of pages, site can be penalized in search result pages by being moved down, and moved to supplemental index or even unlisted from search index. This is not good.

Test Conducted

For example: Website X has 5 pages of original content and they ranked #1 for very uncommon search term. Website X has 100+ links pointing to them and their Google PageRank of PR4. Then, after a few weeks, 30 pages of content from another site that required a link back to it were added. For this, after Google indexed the website, Website X rank down to about #60 to #100. This is what we don’t want when we are doing Internet Marketing. So, avoid this.

The test continued by add more links (another 100 links, now X has over 200 links) but this didn’t help to move it back above #60 to #100 positions. Then, after 3 month, duplicate content has been removed from Website X. After SE updated website, X will slowly moved back to positions #2.

So, what does this Test mean to you?

Don’t ever link to website that have same content as yours (mainly if it is in big amount compared to total number of pages).

What you should do now?

You must not link to website with duplicate content, but your website have lots of popular articles from MoreNiche Content Connection, use that and follow few rules that are based on fact that SE evaluates the whole page’s code and not just the article itself.

Example: SE see all website page as code and includes site to specific menu, HTML tags, layouts, title, description etc. Mix it up and articles aren’t considered as duplicate considered as duplicate since it was part of some bigger code. That’s was my secret to this.

200x200-moreniche.gifUseful tips for Content Connection user (you will have this when you register to MoreNiche)

I recommended you to use these tips for more security from SE:

- use articles on pages that have a solid size menu
- have unique intro and closing for used articles, and change it’s Title’s too
- use Synonyms (available in MS Word) to replace words
- insert comments (or block quote) in the middle of article and links to detailed info
- insert short product reviews (with 1 picture + 1 paragraph + link to full review)
- split longer articles into 2 pages or more (stay with 150-200 words on each page, like my blog post - you will read a review on Homepage)
- rewrite articles on your own words
- combine 2 or more articles into 1
- mix bullet points order if there any
- this is the important things - think outside of the box

Important tip for you (last tip)

Don’t host to DMOZ directory for making more pages on your website. Google will ban you for that and will remove your whole site. Eg: your website is hosted 10000 pages from DMOZ to drive another extra 500 visitors a day. This is bad for us, but it was a fact. Duplicate content is evil. Be aware with this.
