How To Create iPod-Ready Video Clips
iPod 5th generation has been launch last 2 years. What I happy about iPod 5th generation when it was released is - their ability to play videos and store videos. But, many people out there disappointed about iTunes (iPod companion software) is - it was unable to convert videos from existing format to format that iPod can read.
You can download iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
The latest iTunes when this post is written is iTunes 7.6
On that time, if you want to convert video clips for using on iPod, you must use third party software. For now, it was not anymore. You can use newest iTunes 6.0.2 (the 1st version of iTunes that can convert to iPod-video-format) to convert video clips to use on your iPod. That iTunes comes with conversion tool that able to convert any others video format to iPod-compatible-format. That iTunes is subtly integrate, so not many of us able to maximize this advanced feature. So, that’s why I write this post to help you convert your video clips to iPod-compatible-format.
iTunes 6.0.2 can convert Quick-Time Player video formats to iPod-ready files (video files). This formats mostly MOV, MPEG or MP4, and converted to H.264 video format (this format can handles 320 pixels wide colors). The disadvantages about this is you doesn’t allow to reconfigure this video setting format. Did you know iPod can support TV? This format is great quality picture on iPod, but when you’re view on your TV, video quality is not so good.
Step-by-step on creating iPod-ready video clips:
- Add video clips to iTunes library (just drag and drop then into iTunes library window
- Select files that you want to convert -> Right click mouse button -> Select “Convert Selection for iPod” -> iTunes automatically convert that selected files to iPod-ready video
- You can monitor that status by clicking on “Source” -> “Converting songs”
- After converting process is done, you now have 2 files with same content, delete the older file
- Check the new file, File Properties -> look at “Date added” column (is that date you convert?)
- Done! -> Enjoy your video-clips
For now, your video clips are compatible with your iPod. You can transfer (copy and paste) that new files to your iPod and enjoyed yourself your favorite video anywhere, anytime!
Cheers!
